One man's idea is becoming the voice of an entire community. ARME T-shirts shout messages of a life that many in our society choose to ignore.

Growing up amongst the hardships of the hood could convince anyone that their dismal beginnings will be their dismal end. Some try for a better life but the majority do not look to improve living conditions and often because they don't think they deserve it. These conditional self-esteem issues widely found in lower class neighborhoods throughout the country cause many to turn to violence in order to survive. The Boston Parent's Paper published through the Harvard School of Public Health reported 2/3 of students in grades 6-12 say they could obtain a firearm in 24 hours. Derrick Murray, a Bronx, New York native, knew that he could use his creativity in designing clothing as a way out. His first intention was to send a message to the world about a community that is too often ignored. He wanted the real issues of living in the hood to be talked about. At the same time Derrick wanted to show this impoverished community that there are brighter days and with hard work and dedication anything is possible. In 1997 Derrick's idea was born and ARME (A Rapidly Moving Entity) clothing was first introduced to the people.

The idea behind ARME clothing was to combine shocking images like an animated gun and bullets with strong messages that oppose gun violence. The images grab the attention of the public and the messages give a voice to the harsh realities of life in the hood. Messages like “welcome to the hood it seems like everyone wants to be a thug and nobody cares about dying until they're actually dying. Don't be a fool and get bodied over bullsh*t! the few black leaders we had died for a cause, you're dying and you won't be remembered. Stay alive.....welcome to the hood. Original lethal injection" , is one example of the raw truth found on ARME clothing. The messages focus on giving positive guidance to people living in low income conditions in order to boost their self-esteem and help them gain confidence in their own dreams.

Derrick gave sweat and tears to get his dream started but he knew he couldn't do it alone. Muhammad Suleman, a college friend and sales guru, was presented with the opportunity to get down with what Derrick knew would be a huge success.
